Q: Who will be watching and evaluating my video?

Q: Will AreUaStar help me to get an agent or a job acting?
A: As busy Casting Directors, we always have our eyes peeled for fresh, new talent! However, submitting a video to AreUaStar is not an audition for any particular project that we are working on. AreUaStar is not an agency and doesn't represent actors although if we see someone that has uploaded a video with TONS of potential, we may refer that person to a top Hollywood talent agency or manager as a courtesy. Because our Casting Directors have many, many years of working in Hollywood, we have close connections to all of the major agencies and managers in town. AreUaStar is a tool for you to use to see if you really have star quality, so that you can decide if you want to pursue a career in show business.
Q: Do you ever list casting calls on AreUaStar?
A: Sometimes, if we are working on a project, we will give visitors to the AreUaStar site an opportunity to submit themselves for an available role. There is no charge for this, but there is no guarantee that you will be accepted to submit a photo or audition for these available roles. We also, as a courtesy, may list calls that we hear about from time to time under Hot Hollywood Links.
Q: How do I upload a video or photo for you to evaluate?
A: It's easy. Once you have purchased a Gold Star, Silver Star or Photo Only package, you'll receive a confirmation email with a link to our uploader. It's easy to use - just like uploading to YouTube or a similar type of site. You can also use the uploader for uploading photos. If we are looking for a particular role, we will list it on the front of the website. Gold Star, Silver Star and Photo Only evalutions are a paid consulting service of AreUaStar; casting calls listings are free to site visitors.
Q: What can I do to make the video look professional?
A: Make sure you have adequate lighting so that we can see your face and your facial expressions. Also, please make sure that you are not too far away from the camera - we want to be able to hear you loud and clear. In our offices, we usually do a body shot of the actor (show his or her whole figure) and then move in closer so that the actor is framed from the waist up. Q: Can I use my web-cam?
A: Sure! Just be sure if you are using your web-cam that you follow the same tips about good lighting, good sound, a plain background (if possible) and in this case, not being too close to the camera. Try to make sure the camera is filming you from a level angle so that we see you from a flattering angle.
Q: Where do I find the AreUaStar sample scenes? How do I use them?
A: Visit our "Sample Scripts" link. There you will find a number of professionally written scenes to look over. You can choose from comedy and drama scenes, and also select the correct age category. Feel free to use one of these professionally written scenes - or do something original. We're happy to look at your original material. Please remember that the professionally written scenes are used with the writer's permission - but only for use on AreUaStar. No permission is granted for them to be used elsewhere.
Q: Do I have to use a written scene for you to evaluate my star potential?
A: Not really- many times that "star quality" is evident just from listening to an actor
tell a story that captures his or her energy and presence. If you prefer, just turn the camera on yourself and record up to 2 minutes of you talking to the camera about something that is meaningful to you, or tell a funny story, or do a stand-up routine. Be creative. If you've got "it", it will shine through.
Q: Most of your sample scenes are for 2 people. How do I do that?
A: Since most of acting happens with another actor, have someone you know be your reading partner. That person should be off-camera, and can read the other role from the script.
Q: Some of the scenes have stage directions. Should I follow these?
A: The stage directions are to give you a feeling for what is going on in the scene. You don't need focus on actions in the stage directions.... remember - "less is more". Also, for you first timers - don't read the stage directions out loud.
Q: Why am I limited to a 2 minute video?
A: Casting Directors can tell if you have "Star Potential" almost as soon as you walk in the door. We don't need to watch more than 2 minutes of a video to know if the actor has the "it" factor that we are looking for. If you do submit more than 2 minutes of video, we'll only be able to watch the first 2 minutes.
Q: How long will I have to wait before getting my AreUaStar evaluation?
A: You will receive your feedback within 48-76 hours of uploading your video or
photo. If you are using the mail, then please allow 5 days from the time we receive
your video or photo in the mail
Q: What if I don't have the technology to upload a video?
A: That's ok! You can still find out your star potential..... You can order the Gold Star, Silver Star or Photo Only package online and then mail a video tape (Mini DV), DVD or photograph of yourself to the following address:

that there is an added processing fee of $10.00 for tapes and DVDs that
are mailed in. Be sure to include your email address or postal mail
address with your materials, so that we can send you your evaluation.
If you don't want to order and pay online, you can also send a
cashier's check or money order in with your materials. When sending
photos, tapes or DVDs in the mail, please use USPS or courier service
(UPS, FedEx or DHL) and obtain a tracking number. AreUaStar cannot be responsible for materials that may be lost in the mail or were not received by us.
Q: I don't have a credit card. Can I buy your packages by sending you a check or money order?
A: You can use a cashier's check or money order to buy a package. No personal checks will be accepted. Send an email to orders@areuastar.com telling us which package you are purchasing. Once we receive your cashier's check or money order, we'll send you the link to our AreUaStar uploader, and you can send in your video or photo that way. Or you can send both your payment and video or photo via the mail. Our mailing address is:
